What to do after a car accident

August 12, 2020

While states continue to re-open, that means there are more people on the road and increased risk of accidents.

Stay Calm

If you are not in immediate danger, take a deep breath and collect yourself as remaining calm will help you manage the process after an accident.

Help the Injured

Check on everyone else involved in the crash and call 911 for those needing medical attention.

Stay at the Scene

If possible, move your vehicle to a safe place out of the way and turn on your hazard lights. Remain at the scene until help arrives.

Contact the Police

If the police don’t come to the scene, make sure to file an accident report at a police station as soon as possible.

Gather Information

Exchange information with everyone involved, including witnesses, and take photos or video of the scene if possible to help the insurance claim process go smoothly.

Contact your Insurance Agency

Your insurance agent can help determine if a claim is necessary to file. If you would like to file a claim, the sooner your insurer is aware of the accident, the sooner the claim process can begin.
